jan 8, 1936 - Red Terror
Description:
It was given it's name after various acts of the violence committed in 1936 until the end of the Spanish Civil War. News of the rightist military coup in July 1936 unleashed a social revolutionary response, and no leftist region escaped revolutionary and anticlerical violence, but it was minimal in the Basque Country. This act of violence killed tens of thousands including Roman Catholic priests. There were also attacks on the Spanish nobility, industrialists, and conservative politicians and the burning of monasteries and churches.
