oct 16, 1859 - The Raid on Harpers Ferry
Description:
John Brown, an abolitionist of Bleeding Kansas fame, and some sons and collaborators conspired to raid the federal armory at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. The plan fell under when no slaves joined the raid, and Brown was executed for his trouble, but the raid would divide abolitionists and their opponents more deeply than ever before, deepening the already-intense north-south sectional divide.
