On October 1st 1890, the Mckinley tariff of 1890 was passed by congress which made tariffs the highest it had ever been in the country. This law was passed by Republicans and it failed miserably so the voters voted for the democrats who then tried to reduce the tariffs but only did a little. It wouldn’t be until much later did tariffs get to a normal beneficial rate.Added to timeline:
