An influential 4th-century biblical scholar, championed the literal interpretation of the Bible in opposition to what he regarded as the excesses of allegorical interpretation.
He raised concerns about excessive allegorizing, and was responsible for the Vulgate Translation of the Bible into Latin which was later adopted as the official text for the Roman Catholic CHurch
He was involved with many 3rd Century theological controversies: Hypotases, Origenism, and Peligianism
