Description:
The popular front was a coalition consisting of many different left wing organizations, created by Manuel Azaña in order to win the 1936 general elections. It included the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), Communist Party of Spain (PCE), the Workers' Party of Marxist Unification (POUM, independent communist) and the republicans: Republican Left (IR), and the Republican Union. It fulfilled its purpose and did lead the left to win the elections that year.
