Description:

In the early 1920s, the Soviets sent technical, political, and military advisors to help build a modern Chinese army.
1925: Sun Yixian’s death.
Military commander Chiang Kai-shek took over leadership of the Nationalists.
In 1926, Chiang began a military campaign against the warlords called the Northern Expedition.
Northern Expedition collapsed against the Nationalist troops.
Nationalists quickly gained control of Human province and the cities in the Wuhan area.
In 1927, Chiang expelled all Soviet advisers from the country and moved against the party’s left-wing members of Communism and Socialism.
Troops loyal to Chiang attacked the Communist stronghold of Shangai.
Arrested and executed large numbers of Communists.
Chiang established a Nationalist government in Nanjing.
