feb 21, 1965 - Malcom X
Assassinated
Description:
On 21st February 1965, whilst he was making a speech in New York, he was assassinated by three members of the Nation of Islam, who were angry that he had left the group and changed his views
Malcom X’s influence increased after his death. His ideas of black pride, violence in self-defence and a rejection of the civil rights movement inspired many others and became the basis of more radical groups, such as Black Power and the Black Panthers
However, he also had an impact on all civil rights groups by highlighting the huge economic and social problems facing many African Americans
