Description:

Those who took part in the Freedom Summer Murders were attacked by the Ku Klux Klan
KKK had very large membership in Mississippi
Freedom campaigners were shot or beaten up, and AA churches and homes were bombed
21st June 1964: three campaigners - Michael Scherner, Andrew Goodman and James Chaney (who were members of CORE) were arrested for traffic offenses when driving to Scherner’s house in Mississippi
The policeman who arrested them was a KKK member and told others that he had the 3 men in custody
After they were released from prison, they were never seen again
6 weeks later, their bodies were discovered. Sherner and Goodman had been shot in the chest, Chaney had been beaten to death
