aug 31, 1912 - Rise of the Nationalists

Description:

The Kuomintang forced the Qing emperor to leave and China was proclaimed a republic.
Their goals were to unify political parties to end the foreign influence, to gradually change to democracy, and to implement many economic improvements.
In the first few years, there were many assassinations and revolts.
Yuan Shikai, The leader of the imperial army, became the president.
The Nationalists (Kuomintang) wanted to defeat warlords and establish a central government, but they needed help. Of the nations that they reached out to, only the Soviet Union helped them, sending many advisors to help build a modern army.
