I think that the Roman Empire fell in 1453 because, in 410, Rome was only sacked by the Visigoths. In 476, the first Barbarian
(non-Roman) Emperor was installed but Rome was still intact at least some of it was. The reason that I think it fell in 1453 was that when Constantinople fell, their connection was destroyed and therefore Rome could no longer be whole and fell apart.
