jun 29, 1947 - Marshal Plan

Description:

This plan urged the nations of Europe to work out a comprehensive recovery program based on US financial aid. Europe was facing one of the worst winters and the economy was on the brink of a global depression. George Marshal composed this plan, proposing a massive infusion of American capital. Congress did not approve this plan at first, but when Stalin led a communist coup in February 1948, Congress approved the plan. Within the next 4 years America contributed 13 billion, increasing European production by 64%. The US invited Stalin to join, but created restrictions they knew he would refuse. . He refused and demanded all Soviet clients to also refuse, dividing Europe.
