jan 1, 1928 - Collectivisation began
Description:
- Two types of collective farms were created (some argue they were the same)
- Collective farms: farms shared between a number of peasants who would share the work and wage
- State farms: state owned all land. Peasants farmed for a wage and worked collectively on the land
- Stalin believed that the needs of the USSR could only be met with industrialisation
- Kulaks persecuted (those who employed peasants to farm the land cheap and hold back grain to drive prices up). Blamed for the grain shortages and used as propaganda
