mar 30, 190 BC - Boxer rebellion

Description:

In the late 1800s a growing number of foreign missionaries and business people were settling in China.
Hostility to the foreigners and the Qing Dynasty increased.
“Society of the Fists of Righteous Harmony” – also known as the Boxers - were a rebel group which killed many Chinese Christians and foreigners.
What happened? Empress Tz’u-hsi (or Ci Xi) secretly encouraged the Boxers.
Results: Boxers surrounded the Foreign Diplomatic Quarter in Beijing. Many Chinese Christians and foreigners were killed here.
Eventually an international army was formed which crushed the Boxers.
