dec 1, 1955 - Arrest of Rosa Parks
Description:
Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white person on a bus. This event caused the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1956 which brought a renewed urgency to the civil rights struggle. During her arrest process, Parks states, “Who would have thought that little Rosa McCauley—whose friends teased her for being such a goody Two-shoes in her dainty white gloves—would ever become a convicted criminal, much less a subversive worthy of police apprehension, in the eyes of the state of Alabama?”
Significance: This event caused the fight for civil rights to spark up again and showed that African Americans are not going to tolerate the treatment they are experiencing.
