jun 3, 1943 - Zoot Suit Riots

Description:

The Zoot Suit Riot was a riot between the Mexican immigrants, Mexican-Americans, and the American soldiers. Because at that time, the zoot suits were seen as unpatriotic (Because it used a lot of cloth and fabric at the time of rationing). And because many Mexican Americans & immigrants wore zoot suits at that time, they were seen as juvenile delinquents and thugs. And one day, American soldiers attacked the Mexican Americans and immigrants wearing zoot suits in LA. This caused a big riot and involved a lot of violence.

The significance of this riot is that this event showed a lot of nativisms (discrimination towards the immigrants) in America. It also showed the violence of a public official such as soldiers and police who used violence against the immigrants.
