Ignite Hyper Hatch (2020 Concept)
Description:
In 2018, at the annual Autoshow in Budapest, Hungary, GTH brought to the show two 2020 concepts. The MegaMower and this, the Ignite, a Hyper Hatch 2020 concept.
It's a small and light hatchback, weighing only arond 870kg, packing an almost 500 horsepower boxer 4 cylinder engine in the back. It's now famous signature is the extruding intercooler from the back of the car, but it was definitely not meant to be like that. Mistakes were made, and due to lack of communication between the body and engine teams, when it came to assembly for this one-off concept, the engine simply didn't fit.
The senior designer decided just to cut out the body of the Ignite to make room. It's fair to say that the Ignite in this form would never go into production, but it was meant as a one-off concept anyway.
As for performance, it's quick. It goes from 0-100kmh in less then 3 seconds and once the turbo kicks in, there is no turnin back! It was not witout flaws though. With a rear mounted engine, the weight distribution was not ideal and the car suffered from bad snap-oversteer and was at times terribly difficult to drive.
Since the autoshow there has been no official word on the future of the Ignite, but there has actually been some chatter in the rumor mill that GTH will release a hot hatch inspired by the Ignite in 2020, but nothin has been confirmed yet. Some information leaks from unofficial sources indicate that a 2020 hot hatch model is in the works and that it will actually use the same boxer 4 cylinder engine. But as with all rumors, it needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
During the Autoshow, and in the following weeks, GTH recieved numerous offers to sell the Ignite, but all offers, no matter how generous, were rejected and the car is kept in GTH's headquarters for display.
