jan 8, 1923 - The area of Memel was taken from Germany after the treaty of Versailles. However, it was not given to France even though most of the residents there were Lithuanian. The Lithuanian people decided to rebel against this but the League got involved and decided to make Memel an autonomous unit within Lithuania
