Foreign affairs had boosted Nixon's popularity for this election. The republicans ran Richard Nixon as president and Spiro Agnew as the VP. The Democrats ran George McGovern and George Wallace. McGovern was very liberal and Wallace was governor of Alabama. Probably the one man that might stand in Nixons way of being elected until may of 1972 because he was shot by a would be assassin during his campaign. Shot in spine and paralyzed and had to drop out. Nixon won the election and carried every state but Massachusetts.
