Carter allowed exiled Shah Pahlavi into the U.S. for cancer treatment. The revolutionaries lead by Ayatollah Khomeini attack the U.S. embassy and took 53 Americans hostage to try and get Pahlavi back. Carter said he wouldn't negotiate and tried to rescue them but it failed due to sandstorms. the Americans were released after Reagon was signed in as president
