“Yah,” is one of the tracks that comprise Kendrick Lamar’s 2017 album, “Damn.” Released by Top Dawg Entertainment, Aftermath Entertainment (Dr. Dre’s label), and Interscope Records, “Damn.” was Kendrick Lamar’s fourth released studio album. “Damn.” explores the hardships of being black in America, topics of spirituality and religion, and human relationships and their implications. On this track titled, “Yah,” in Lamar’s second verse, he raps “Fox News wanna use my name for percentage… somebody tell Geraldo this n**** got some ambition… I’m an Israelite; don’t call me black no more. That word is only a color, it ain’t facts no more.” In less than five lines of one verse, Lamar is able to surface level respond to Geraldo Rivera’s racially driven critique of himself and hip-hop.
