may 15, 1967 - The Ten Point Program
Description:
The Ten Point Program, is a sort of outline and guidebook of the Black Panther Party. The book contains the ideals and operations of the party. It was released in 1967, near to the origins of the BPP. The first portion of the Ten Point Program is devoted to the wants of the BPP, while the second half outlines the universal beliefs of members. The vital connection, associating the Black Panther Party and Malcolm X, is the fundamental belief in non-passive resistance. Within the Ten Point Program, Newton and Seale call for “organizing Black self-defense groups.” The BPP was founded one year after Malcolm X’s assassination, and was an influence to leaders of the BPP. In “Who Taught You to Hate Yourself?” Malcolm X asserted that leaders of the black resistance will “kill you for [their] women,” in extreme cases of violence against black women.
