President Johnson told the public that August 2nd and 4th of 1964 North Vietnamese torpedo boats had fired on two American destroyers that were patrolling in the Gulf of Tonkin and he called the attack unprovoked . This lead to the passing of the Gulf o Tonkin Resolution.Added to timeline:
