At 4.45 am approximately 1.5 million German troops invaded Poland along a 1,750 mile border. At the same time German Luftwaffe bombed Polish airfields, and attacked Polish naval forces with German warships and U-boats in the Baltic Sea. This sparked the beginning of WW11 as Britain and France declared war on Germany.
