may 1, 1833 - The Factory Acts
Description:
The Factory Acts prohibited the employment of children under 9 & placed limits on the working hours of those between 9 & 18. It was effective because it adopted the Benthamite principle of a head boss, and a supervisor to manage the workers. This was passed as an effort to respond to major backlash from labor unions and the working class to factory conditions.
