Eagle Motor Company was born in racing, in the World-Series to be specific.
The annual World-Series were first held in the summer of 1950 and have since, to this day, been the single most renowned motoring event in the world. From the start, many car makers emerged with the single purpose of participating in the events, but on the 10th anniversary of the World-Series, a automotive empire was formed.
Right after the 1959 World-Series, a humble American mechanic by the name of Ervin Williams (b. 1932) decided to form a small team with the goal of assembling a car to compete in the 1960 World-Series, the 10th anniversary of the event. To make a long story short, the World 1 Racecar was born, and with it the soon to be automotive empire.
Ervin and his team, working under the name Eagle Motor Company, cooked up a legendary engine, unmatched in its time. It's a mid-mounted 7 liter V16, producing 582.5 horsepower and 709 Nm of torque. It's rear wheel drive of course, with a 4 speed manual gearbox, and goes from 0-100kmh in only 3.8 seconds. Top speed is 299kmh.
The World 1 didn't only do well in the 1960 event, it dominated it, along with the next three years, pulling four consecutive World-Series wins in the years 1960-1964. Never again has a manufacturer accomplished such a feat.
The success of the World 1 made Eagle Motor Company what it is today, and after the fourth World-Series win in 1964, it decided to retire from the racing scene and used the brand's success to market and sell production cars to the public.
Ervin Williams retired at the age of 68 and appointed Jonathan Bagley (b. 1966) as his successor. He is the son of Josh Bagley, one of the founding members of the company.
Bagley is EAGLE's current CEO.
