Beliefs on religious liberty, namely; that God alone can judge the conscience, the use of force by the civil authority in matters of religion is entirely ineffective.
He did not believe in the puritan views and did not agree with taking away native lands. His ideas for government being separate from the church inspired the founders when they wrote the Bill of Rights and Declaration of Independence.
