While spain was having its civil war. western civilization turned a blind eye. Franco and his people had the support of fascist leaders in Germany, and Italy. The only country that backed the republic of Spain, was the USSR. The USSR might be worse than all of them, but at least they defended the people of Spain from a dictator. Also, voulonteers from many other countries tried to help, but that is still not the support of a strong government.
