jan 12, 1933 - Casas Vejas Massacre
Description:
Workers marched in the streets as a form of a revolution. During this event, two guards were wounded and the civil and assault guard arrived in Casas Viejas on January 11th. While many villagers fled, some anarchists attempted to resist the arrest and took shelter in the home of Francisco Gutierrez. However, Captain Rojas commanded guards to set the house on fire with many anarchists and their families still inside. Police and soldiers arrested anyone in possession of a gun in the village and led them to the house with their dead colleagues and shot them. This event was extremely important because it was a violent massacre that killed around twenty four people.
