Description:
Many active and retired officers joined together to form a conspiracy against the Republic, with General Emilion Mola as the leader of the conspiracy. General Jose Sanjurjo would be the figurehead of the conspiracy. The government attempted to remove any suspect generals from influential positions, ultimately their actions weren’t enough. In the end, the rebellion did not take any major cities except Seville, and the Republic retained control over most of the country. Although the Nationalists gained support from half of Spain’s territorial army, along with the Army of Africa from Morocco and the militaristic police force.
