The Second Spanish Republic was the democratic government which existed in Spain from 1931-1939. The Spanish Republic was proclaimed after the deposition of Alfonso XII and it also lost the Spanish Civil War to the rebel faction that established a military under the control of dictator Francisco Franco. The government was left winged and established by socialists and republicans. This government also reassured political liberties which were usually not allowed during dictatorships and also provided civil liberties. It was a democratic form of government.Added to timeline:
