Description:

Throughout WWII, Rome had been a coveted city for both the Allies and the Axis powers. When Rome was declared to be an ‘open city’, German forces were angered by this and moved into the city, from there they committed many atrocities and the fighting over Rome continued as the Allies tried to find a way in. Finally, on June 4, 1944 Rome fell to the Allies.
