Description:

José Sanjurjo joined the Spanish Army and served in Morocco where he reached the rank of lieutenant general. In 1932 Sanjuro led an attempted military coup against the government. It was aimed at toppling the government but not necessarily at toppling the Republic. He was later arrested, tried, and sentenced to death bu was given a life sentence instead.
