jul 1, 1936 - Military Coup of 1936
Description:
CEDA called for a military uprising to “restore order” in Spain. Most of the political right was in support of the plan, and two army Generals began planning the uprising. It was particularly important that the Carlists and Falange were supportive of the plan because they had military-like forces that were able to support the army. The coup was prompted by the death of a notable right-wing figure, Jose Calvo Sotelo.
