nov 1, 1933 - November 1933 Elections

Description:

The country was in a state of disorder because the left couldn’t agree on how to deal with the actions’ of the right. Furthermore, the two groups were no longer able to cooperate. In the meantime, the right organized themselves and won 115 seats in the November election, whereas the socialist party only managed to win 58. The coalition that won the seats, CEDA, was formed because right-wing political groups were frustrated with reforms, and realized that they needed to form a coalition group to succeed in the government. These elections significantly changed the way that the country was run, because the right wing did not necessarily support the Republic, but begrudgingly continued to utilize the form of government. Additionally, CEDA received funding from wealthy landowners and other elites that helped them implement the policies that they wanted. This funding was important because the left wing didn’t have it, and the country was in a state of economic crisis that the Azana’s government couldn’t fix because it didn’t have the resources to.
