may 19, 1931 - Workers burned down churches

Description:

These actions taken by the workers were due to denunciation of the Republic by Cardinal Segura. The church then responded by portraying the characteristics of a "martyr". They believed that the actions that the Republic were taking were unfair and took away things that were important to them. For example, the ringing of the church bell was banned and this upset the church. The church and state separated which exposed how dependent the church was on the state for aid.
