may 10, 1931 - Burning of the Convents
Description:
Following the multiple street riots and strikes the burning of the convents occurred where multiple religious buildings were burned and destroyed. Over one hundred religious buildings were burned down. Items with artistic or religious value were also destroyed and some people were also killed or injured. This event was caused by a right wing group playing a recording of monarchist Marcha Real which enraged people passing by which caused protests to sweep across Spain. These protests weren't stopped either because the government believed Spanish lives were more important than protecting some religious buildings.
