jul 1, 1932 - Agrarian Reform

Description:

From April to July of 1931, there were many problems for agricultural labourers (overtime pay and long hours). Landowners were ordered to cultivate all usable land and if they didn't follow orders, their land would be taken and distributed to landless labourers; small tenant farmers were protected against unfair evictions. Landowners (Socialists/Labourers) were opposed to these reforms and went around them as the government did little to enforce the reforms. The Agrarian Reform of 1932 pertained to land redistribution for central and southern Spain. Land would be allocated to ensure small farmers had holdings large enough to give good income. The distribution of land was little as funds were limited so only a few 1000s of families received land. This angered both landowners and workers and small farmers causing an increase in support for the anarchists.
