Description:
A nationalist and military uprising designed to overthrow the Spanish Second Republic, but in actuality precipitated the Spanish Civil War when Nationalists fought with Republicans for control of Spain. It caused a split of the Spanish military and territorial control, instead of a shift in government. I t was an attempt to rebel against Azana over disagreements concerning military reforms. Jose Sanjurjo staged a coup with some Carlists under Manuel Fal Conde and Tomas Dominguez Arevalo. The coup was successful in Seville but not in Madrid as Sanjurjo was arrested.Added to timeline:
