feb 1, 1933 - Formation of CEDA
Description:
A coalition of right-wing parties formed by Jose Maria Gil Robles. It was formed to defend religion, property rights, and national unity by forming an alliance among right-wing parties to go defeat the left-wing coalition. CEDA gained financial support from landowners and industrialists in hopes of winning elections to undo the reforms of Azana. They wanted to protect religion, family, and property and demanded for a revision of the constitution. Gil Robles took influences from the way the government was ruled in Italy (fascist-style rallies) and Germany (Nazi propaganda and anti-Marxism). From 1933 to 1936, the CEDA party was lacking in votes costing them right-wing support.
