feb 6, 1922 - Washington Naval Treaty
Description:
The Washington Naval Treaty, also known as the Five-Power Treaty, was a treaty signed in 1922 with the nations that won World War I. It limited the construction of battleships, battlecruisers and aircraft carriers by the nations who signed. The numbers of other categories of warships, including cruisers, destroyers and submarines were not limited by the treaty but those ships were limited to 10,000 tons displacement each. The Washington naval treaty had to ease tensions in Asia that were only growing because they needed to keep things peaceful. This treaty was organised to prevent any future disasters that might occur. They arranged security in certain areas so that if something did happen, they would be able to control what is happening. The Washington Naval Treaty was the end of the Anglo-Japanese Alliance, because the Americans that were involved in the treaty said that they would not agree unless the United States ended its alliance with Japan. Which then created havoc.
