what:
the Treaty of Non-Aggression was between Germany and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, it was a neutrality pact between Nazi Germany and the Soviet union.

cause:
Hitler wanted a non-aggression pact with the Soviet Union so that his armies could invade Poland unopposed by a major power, after Germany could deal with the forces of France/Britain in the west without having to fight the Soviet Union.

effect:
it used the pact to make sure Germany was able to invade Poland without fighting others. The pact also had a secret agreement where the Soviets/Germans agreed that they would later divide Eastern Europe.
