apr 1, 1939 - End of Civil War and the beginning of Franco's rule

Description:

Once the republic had lost the support from the International Brigades the Republic was essentially left defenseless as the republic had lost the majority of its supporters who were set on destroying the republic. Franco was able to receive support from Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany who had helped to supply munitions, soldiers, and air support. With the coaltion of the Nationalist, Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany they were able to defeat the Republicans who were poorly organized, undiscilpined, and had less military experience. After Franco’s successful win of the Spanish Civil war he was able to overthrow the republic with force and become the dictator of Spain. Franco made sure that he had total control of the government and had refused to give his supporters, the fascist Falange, any authority. Franco mainly focused on keeping any opposing parties or individuals from rising up rebelling against him. Franco ended up remaining the dictator of Spain for thirty-nine years until his death of congestive heart failure in 1975.
