feb 28, 1933 - Formation of the Catholic Party (CEDA)

Description:

The right-wing CEDA was formed by Gil Robles, and was a party that stood on the belief of totalitarian politics to unite Spain. Formed to win the 1933 election, its integration of many right-wing parties gave it a lot of support, as well as its usage of propaganda tactics. As CEDA were seeking to end parliament, the party was heavily seen by groups from the right as a way to resist the Rebublic and eventually became the country's largest party for a short time and winning the 1933 general elections. However, with the Popular Front being elected in 1936, they were left to support violence against the republic instead of legal reform as they saw that as the only other way to create any type of change.
