oct 3, 1893 - Van Helsing and Dr. Seward decide to operate on Renfield

Renfield is slipping fast. Renfield, realizing that he is dying, tells them what happened

"he" slid through the window. Renfield says that after Mina left from seeing him, he knew she wasn't the same and knew that "he had been taking the life out of her." Renfield tried to attack "him," but he was "burned," and his strength became "like water." Van Helsing realizes that "he is here and we know his purpose."

They rush to see Mina and break down the door to the Harker’s home. Jonathan is unconscious on the bed and, kneeling on the edge of the bed, is the "white clad" Mina. Beside her is a tall thin man, clad in black — Count Dracula.

He was forcing her to suck the blood from a cut on his bare chest. The Count lifts up his head to greet them and... his eyes are blood-red with white nostrils and "white sharp teeth, behind the full lips of the blood-dripping mouth, clamped together like those of a wild beast." Dracula tries to attack them, but is stoped by Van Helsing’s sacred wafer. The lights turn off and when they come on again he is gone but there is a faint vapor escaping under the door. Mina Harker suddenly recovers and hears an ear-piercing scream. "ghastly . . . from the blood which smeared her lips and cheeks and chin." A thin stream of blood falls from her throat

Dracula destroyed all of the Harker’s records and Renfield is dead.
