Not only the lower classes, who expected an improvement in their lives, but also the bourgeoisie supported the foundation of the republic. the Spanish Republic was also an attempt at modernization. It extended political and civil rights to those deprived of them, which meant the increase of the rights of the working classes, the introduction of public education, and the emancipation of women.
