jul 2, 1857 - The NYC Police Riot of 1857
Description:
It didn't take long for chaos to erupt. Many people fought over who would appoint officers. This led the city to have two police forces: the Municipals, who were run by the city's mayor, and the Metropolitans, who were run by the state. In the end, the Metropolitans ended up gaining control of NYC.
