oct 6, 1934 - Asturian Miner's Strike

Description:

This was a strike against the CEDA’s (Spanish Confederation of the Autonomous Right) in Asturia, Spain. This strike began after the general elections of 1933 after the right won through their parties coalition, the new government caused the left to become very angry. And to add onto that anger were leaks of plans that CEDA members were being invited to government. This caused many leftists to protest, a lot of people were armed, eventually causing a big number of casualties across Madrid with almost 2000 dead and 30k captured as prisoners! The right and left became more and more polarized after this event with the left believing it was just a simple protest that got out of hand the right wanting severe punishments to the left.
