Description:
After the failed military coup of July 1936, it left the country in the hands of Franco and his fellow rebels and the rest under the control of supporters of the Second Republic. The context for the revolt was provided by the structural problems that beset Spain. This was how the terrible war started. His pragmatic goal was to maintain power in order to keep what he termed the "anti-Spain" forces from gaining ascendancy.
