Description:

This Convention defines "the basis on which rest the rules of international law for the protection of the victims of armed conflicts"

The Geneva Convention was and is a series of diplomatic and international meetings that resulted in multiple agreements concerning International Humanitarian law. The first agreement was signed in 1864 but after WW2 it was revisited and revised due to issues that had taken place during the war.

During the time when the first Geneva convention was signed the International Red Cross was also formed to help uphold the laws that had been set up.

The main issues that were outlined in the Geneva convention were humane treatment of wounded or captured military personnel and to protect civilians during times of war. After WW 1 laws protecting prisoners of war were also added to the convention. Then again after WW 2 more rules to protect prisoners of war were added. Such as; the Red Cross has the right to check-up on and aid prisoners of war and make sure they are being properly taken care of.
