jan 28, 1930 - Resignation of Primo De Rivera

Description:

On September 19, 1923, Primo De Rivera led a military coup with the backing of the King, at that point being King Alfonso XIII, and the military, ending the previous Monarchy. He was soon later appointed by the king to be the Prime Minister of Spain and vowed to rebuild Spain and destroy corruption. While in power, in an effort to reduce unemployment, he spent more money on public works with the help of higher taxes on the rich. The rich and elite were angry at this and complained thus causing Primo De Rivera to pay using public loans which caused inflation and he soon lost the support of the Army causing him to be forced to resign. The end of his dictatorship paved the way for a democracy to open up in Spain.
